~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These pictures of hand-made chairs with sprung seats were sent in by Francis Henrich, from all the way over in New Zealand. He wrote: "Thanks for your advice on the upholstery. Special thanks also to Joan for her video guidance - from an upholstery novice - extremely helpful. "Best wishes from Francis in sunny New Zealand." Remember, expert advice is always just a phone call away, and we can deliver goods anywhere in the world - even to the opposite side of the globe. ![]() ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OCTOBER 2011 While many of our customers use their purchases in a more straightforward manner, sometimes even we can get a surprise. Jane Rankin promised us some pictures of the 'jackets' that she needed us to source some braid for - and here's what she sent, pictures of her Whippet Champions proudly donning their Champion jackets.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OCTOBER 2011 One JA Milton customer, John Wayper, was told that his chair was originally caned - that’s why the two pictures look so different. He didn’t do the caning himself but he did have the opportunity as his friend had done caning before and was willing to show him how to do it. After thinking about it he didn’t think he would have been able to do such a good job so he decided against it. However, he did plug all the old nail holes - which was around 200. He also had removed all the old varnish before doing all the caning and he is so happy with the end result. He said his chair dates to around 1910. It has also been dated from between 1895 – 1920 by other people.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hi there Jo Dear Joan
You have been extremely helpful in providing me with guidance for my Chaise project, which I stripped down to the bare carcass then thought, "oh my goodness what have I taken on" however with your assistance in providing tools and equipment, upholstery supplies, and invaluable advice, and some help from a few books, I managed to complete the project and it is a great favourite with our three grandchildren as a perch in front of the window, a Princess boudoir, a chariot, or whatever the game is today.
I promised you at the time that I would send photos and then felt a bit abashed to do so, but in the spirit of sharing I am sending under separate cover (cos I'm not too great at this e-mail photo stuff) a few now. Just wanted to say think you really. I would love to do one of your courses, but the travel distance and time constraints make that difficult meantime. Kind regards
Hello Jo
Here are some pictures of my finished product. I made the swivel chair frame from North American Cherry, At first I was a little unsure about tackling the upholstery, however I am satisfied with the outcome. Many thanks to you and your team at J.A.M. for providing me with the basics, the hints and tips were very useful , thank you also for the fabric, especialy the covered buttons , It really makes the piece look good. I appreciate your help and kindness Warm Regards, Peter Horton
Hi there Jo
You may remember that we ordered quite a bit of upholstery materials from you not so long ago for us to make a knole sofa and that I promised to send you a photo of the finished article that you said you might be able to use.
Well here it is- at last after a couple of months worth of work, it's done ! I have to say that the quality of materials you provided was excellent and that I'll definately be ordering from you again.
We had never tackled anything like this before so we had to learn as we went along- so it's been quite a journey of learning and doing but well worth the effort. Now we're going to sit up and have a cup of tea !
Once again many thanks for your service and quality - we will be back in touch soon.
