About the tutor

David WalkerDavid Walker was born in the north west of England. After leaving school he attended Wrexham College of Art and Design. There he spent four years on a Visual Communication course, specialising in illustration.

After college David attended Greenfield Valley Young Enterprise Centre, and while there he gained the support of the Prince's Youth Business Trust

David started his own business in 1986 and he enjoys working in a selection of mediums including: oil; pen and ink; watercolour and pencil.

He also enoys the subject matter and has an eye for detail

The Course/s

The classes consist of a maximum of eight students. The word 'student' conjures up a picture of a young person but in this case it is far from representative of those who attend. These 'students' range in ages from 18 to 75 and are all enthusiastic to learn.

Art of David WalkerThere are two workshops to choose from and they are both run over two days.

1. Beginners / Refreshers Workshop

Day 1: Pencil skills. Drawing is an important basis for all artwork and developing simple pencil techniques will help the foundation of any pencil sketch or watercolour.

Drawing is an important basis for all artwork and developing simple pencil techniques will help with the foundation of any pencil sketch or watercolour. Some of the techniques in the workshop include the 'grid' system, which helps immensley in drawing from photos

Day 2: Watercolour techniques. Producing a painting is a bit like a jigsaw and learning how to put the pieces together 'piece by piece' instead of being thrown together, can only produce better results!

2. Development Workshop

As the name suggests this workshop will build on the skills learned in the beginners course. This course will help the individual look at composition and balance within a picture. The aim of which is to produce an end result that the student is pleased with. The first day will focus on drawing with the second day concentrating on watercolour

The theme of both classes is 'Enjoyment'. Being able to enjoy and relax in a small group environment can only help in a good way to develop the basic skills. A worksheet accompanies each topic covered so that once you return home there remains a good visual aid to remind you of how you achieved the results within the class

What our students say about the course

Elizabeth: "David Walker's two-day art class was most enjoyable. He taught us the foundation work in both pencil and watercolours. We were given helpful handouts each time we completed a task, so useful for future reference. A friendly, fun, but very informative day was had. I hope to do a further two days. Highly recommended!"

Jo: "I took the Beginners / Refreshers workshop and it was so enjoyable, I felt relaxed for the whole weekend. Can't wait for the Development workshop!"
