Joan Milton became involved in teaching upholstery at two Shropshire colleges in 1988. It was then that she discovered how difficult it was for the DIYer or small business person to obtain tools or materials, hence the launch of her mail order Upholstery Supplies Catalogue. The Catalogue had been written for the complete novice, explaining the use of the tools and materials as well as using samples.

Teaching her trade gives her a great deal of pleasure and so it became inevitable that she developed this further.

She now reserves her workshop several days a month for 'Teaching Days'.

What our upholstery students say about us?

"Dear Joan, Jo and the girls in the office

I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed my time with you just before Xmas. I learnt so much and now I can finish my stool. Its coming on, slowly but surely. I've also given your details to a colleague of mine - who is very keen to do a similar course. I did warn her that you get very booked up though!

Once again, thanks so much for such a wonderful experience - your tuition and the helpfulness and friendliness of everyone was superlative. It was such a welcome respite from the stresses of my day job and you have inspired me to continue learning more over the next few months and beyond. A friend has even said she'll pay me to re-upholster some dining chairs so I'm looking forward to tackling those. Hopefully I'll be able to get back to see you all for another course again."

All the best,
Kate
