"Pictures as promised of the finished pen cabinet that is an old 1937 cutlery box refitted and re-lined and topped off with the braid I had from you, the round thing on the top is a coaster for my coffee cup, so I dont spoil the top."

Stephen Bigg sent us these pictures of what he has been up to with our materials!

"Here are some of The London Transport RT2775 and its upper deck in its completed state. We are now working on a single decker, and I also enclose some shots of Stephen, who works with another volunteer, Denis, making seat backs for this."

Red Bus RestoredRed Bus Work In Progress

"This particular project was underway for a great many years. The vehicle itself has an interesting history, in that it is the only surviving member of a group of 3 that toured North America in the early 50s as a ‘come to Britain’ show by British Tourist Authority – hence the particular ads on the front & sides.

These buses are 56 seaters, and the lower deck seats – all bar the two longitudinal ones that go at the back on each side over the wheel arches – were professionally re-upholstered many years ago, so long ago in fact that nobody seems to remember who did it!

So we did those 2 (2 x 3 seats – cushions & squabs) and all the upstairs – 15 x 2 seat cushions & squabs. We had to teach ourselves how to use leather, including how to stitch leather pipes.

A Big Thank you to All at Milton's

These pictures of hand-made chairs with sprung seats were sent in by Francis Henrich, from all the way over in New Zealand. He wrote:

"Thanks for your advice on the upholstery. Special thanks also to Joan for her video guidance - from an upholstery novice - extremely helpful. Best wishes from Francis in sunny New Zealand."

While many of our customers use their purchases in a more straightforward manner, sometimes even we can get a surprise.

Jane Rankin promised us some pictures of the 'jackets' that she needed us to source some braid for and here's what she sent, pictures of her Whippet Champions proudly donning their Champion jackets!

"Dear Joan

You have been extremely helpful in providing me with guidance for my Chaise project, which I stripped down to the bare carcass then thought, "oh my goodness what have I taken on" however with your assistance in providing tools and equipment, upholstery supplies, and invaluable advice, and some help from a few books, I managed to complete the project and it is a great favourite with our three grandchildren as a perch in front of the window, a Princess boudoir, a chariot, or whatever the game is today.

I promised you at the time that I would send photos and then felt a bit abashed to do so, but in the spirit of sharing I am sending under separate cover (cos I'm not too great at this e-mail photo stuff) a few now. Just wanted to say think you really. I would love to do one of your courses, but the travel distance and time constraints make that difficult meantime.

Kind regards

"Hello Jo

Here are some pictures of my finished product. I made the swivel chair frame from North American Cherry, At first I was a little unsure about tackling the upholstery, however I am satisfied with the outcome.

Many thanks to you and your team at J.A.M. for providing me with the basics, the hints and tips were very useful , thank you also for the fabric, especialy the covered buttons, It really makes the piece look good.

I appreciate your help and kindness.

Warm Regards

Peter Horton"

"You may remember that we ordered quite a bit of upholstery materials from you not so long ago for us to make a knole sofa and that I promised to send you a photo of the finished article that you said you might be able to use.

Well here it is - at last after a couple of months worth of work, it's done ! I have to say that the quality of materials you provided was excellent and that I'll definately be ordering from you again.

We had never tackled anything like this before so we had to learn as we went along- so it's been quite a journey of learning and doing but well worth the effort. Now we're going to sit up and have a cup of tea!

Once again many thanks for your service and quality – we will be back in touch soon.

Garry Finney"

"I would like to say a very big thank you to all your hard work finding a braid to go with material on my chair. Wow doesn't it look amazing! I'm really impressed with it. Once again thank you and look forward to dealing with you again in the future.

Best Regards

Kyle Whittington"
