Two Day Upholstery Courses

J A Milton Upholstery Workshop

About the Course

Our upholstery courses are designed both for beginners and the more advanced. Classes are small with 4 - 5 students and tutor Tony Dickin to ensure everyone gets time with the tutors but work and learn at their own speed.

The classes take place in our workshop in Ellesmere, Shropshire from around 9am until 4pm including a cold buffet lunch and refreshments throughout the day. If you would like to come to us for a course we can recommend some of our local accommodation – further information can be found here.

Booking Your Course

A complete two days will cost just £300 for the 2 days (+ VAT charged at the standard rate) including a cold lunch buffet and refreshments. We accept Credit, Debit cards and Paypal as well as Cheques and BACS payments. Click here to book and reserve your place on the course or phone Sue, Chris or Lee-Ann on 01691 624023 to book or learn more. If you're looking to buy a course as a gift for someone, we can provide open-dated vouchers so the recipient can choose when to attend. Please see our course terms and conditions here

Your Project

For a beginner we recommend a smaller project such as a footstool but you are welcome to bring along whatever you would like to learn. To ensure your project is suitable for what you want to do we normally request that we give you a call to discuss it and send some photos over of your frame. There is also the option to choose either traditional or modern upholstery and the skills you learn will slightly vary depending on which you prefer.

If your upholstery project requires new foam you will need to order this before your course in order that the factory can cut the size and deliver it to the classroom in time for your class. This can be up to 7 days.

Top fabric will also need to be ordered in but we have a huge range to help you choose and samples can be sent to your home as long as we have enough notice. If you’d prefer to purchase a new frame please contact us in advanced to ensure we have it ready for your course.

All the tools you will need are available to use in our workshop but if you prefer to purchase your own before the course please phone us and we can discuss what you may need.  We have a small shop on site so during the course you can come and have a look.

Course Feedback

"Morning Tony,

Just wanted to get in contact to say how much I enjoyed the course last week. You were courteous, patient and above all else very professional, the course was everything I hoped for and more. I am delighted with the project, the chair looks great and I have started the slip stitching, just waiting for more slipping thread from JAM to complete.

Kind Regards
Phyllis"

"Very relaxed, informative, helpful. Tony was putting everyone at ease. The course was not rushed, we worked at a good pace. The lunch was excellent, and there was a good, ambient temperature, despite the heat outside!"

"What a brilliant couple of days. Tony was so helpful and so knowledgeable."
