Chair glides—also called furniture glides or leg caps—aren’t just about making chairs slide more smoothly. Here’s why they truly matter:
Not all glides are suitable for every situation. It’s important to consider both the chair material and the type of flooring in your space.
For Wooden or Laminate Floors
Use Felt Glides. These are soft, non-abrasive, and offer smooth, scratch-free movement.
For Tiled Floors
Use Rubber or Soft Plastic Glides. They prevent slipping, absorb shock, and protect against chipping or cracking the tiles.
For Carpeted Floors
Use Hard Plastic Glides. These reduce drag and prevent chair legs from snagging on carpet fibers.
Wooden Chairs
Screw-on or nail-on glides are best. They’re secure and long-lasting.
Plastic Chairs
Use tap-in or Plastic Screw-on Glides designed to fit flush into plastic leg openings.
Metal Chairs
Rubberized or Felt-lined Metal Glides work well and protect both the chair and the floor surface.
Felt Glides – Ideal for hardwood and laminate. Quiet and gentle.
Plastic Glides – Best for carpets and plastic furniture.
Rubber Glides – Non-slip, great for tile or polished surfaces.
Metal Glides – Strong and durable, but not recommended for delicate floors unless paired with felt pads.
Also consider the installation type:
Self-Adhesive – Quick and easy, ideal for light-duty furniture.
Nail-On – More secure, suited for wooden legs.
Screw-On – Reliable for long-term use and replaceable.
Tap-In – Best for plastic or metal legs with pre-made holes.
Installing glides is a quick DIY project that can instantly upgrade your furniture’s function and preserve your flooring.
